Situated on Mahee Island in close proximity to Nerdrum Monastery.

The project will be semi-submerged in the lough, enabling the water to have a strong relationship with the structure, flowing within and around. Tidal fluctuations will slowly alter the building with high and low tides transforming areas of the structure.

Inside outside will be used in the expression of the facade system which will consist of a series of rotating concave/convex which enable users to alter the acoustics of the structure.

The building will serve a range of contemplations and draw on ecclesiastical structures within the immediate area of interest and further around the Lough.

Materials to be local and highly contextual throughout, drawing on local craft.

Cymatics will be a primary point of departure in considering the technology surrounding the assignment. Creating a system that displays the frequency whilst also supporting through and stationary traffic will be imperative.
